The British royal family is facing a fresh wave of scandal, with the police investigation into former prince Andrew now assessing “sexual” allegations.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson have had their fair share of controversies over the last couple of years, however despite all the turmoil it seems the two aren’t cutting ties just yet.

Dubbed the “happiest divorced couple in the world”, the pair have co-parented together and remained close three decades after their divorce.

In saying that, a rough last couple of years may have taken a toll on the pair’s unconventional relationship.

The two haven’t been spotted together in public since the funeral of Katharine Duchess of Kent at Westminster Cathedral in September 2025.

Since then, both Mr Mountbatten-Windsor and Ms Ferguson have faced mounting scrutiny in relation to their connection with convicted sex offender and disgraced financier, Jeffrey Epstein.

The latest development in the saga has police investigating claims the former prince allegedly behaved inappropriately towards a woman at Royal Ascot more than 20 years ago.

For Ms Ferguson, allegations she had a closer relationship with Epstein than originally thought has plagued her public image, and the 66-year-old has largely stayed out of the public eye in recent months.

In spite of all the heat, royal biographer Ingrid Seward believes Mr Mountbatten-Windsor and Ms Ferguson won’t have cut ties.

“I remember on one occasion a long time ago I was with her and [Andrew] rang up and she stood up and said, ‘Hello husband’,” Ms Seward told The Mirror.

“He wasn’t really her husband at that point as they had separated, but that’s how they’ve always seen each other.”

“I think she is in contact with Andrew and I don’t think she’d want to leave him high and dry. And also, he is the father of her children. And to him, she’s the mother of the children. He’s always seen her like that,” she said.

“He always saw her as the mother of his children and therefore she was the most important woman in his life, so of course she’s in contact with him.”

Ms Seward added that Ms Ferguson may be acting as a “go-between” for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor and their two daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

“Beatrice has always been close to Andrew, Eugenie less so,” she said.

Some royal insiders have suggested the former Duchess may be considering a tell-all book or major TV interview amid rumours she is strapped for cash, however Ms Seward seems to think she wouldn’t risk jeopardising her daughter’s futures.

“If she does a book or a tell-all interview she will be cutting herself off from everyone and potentially ruining her children’s lives, which is one thing she would not do. I’m sure they’re telling her to keep quiet and lie low,” she told the outlet.

“But that might be the only way she can make money, she’s not going to be supported by her children forever. But she has an incredible knack of finding people to look after her. She lands on her feet, but she’s often fought hard to do so, so I think she will be okay in the long-run.”
