Air raid sirens ring out across Middle East

Civilians throughout the Middle East are bracing for airstrikes amid the US-Israel and Iran conflict.

‘Revenge’ as Iran strikes 27 US bases

As Israelis brace for incoming strikes from Iran, the IRGC has announced it has already targetted 27 US bases across the Middle East.

Iranian state media are reporting that the missile and drone attacks have been extensive, also targeting Israeli Tel Nof airbase and the Israeli army’s command headquarters at HaKirya in Tel Aviv.

Alongside this, a large Tel Aviv defence industrial complex was also subject to a strike, Al Jazeera reports.

The IRGC said it will “implement a different and harsh step of revenge, with successive, regrettable slaps”.

Sirens sound as Iran launches fresh attack on Israel

The Israel Defense Force says sirens are again wailing and Israelis are running to shelter as Iran launches fresh missile fire.

‘Brazen aggression against a sovereign nation’: China’s concern over Iran

From Reuters: China’s ministry of foreign affairs has expressed concern over US-Israeli strikes against Iran and called for an immediate ceasefire, urging all sides to avoid escalation and to resume dialogue and negotiation.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity should be respected.

On Sunday, China’s embassy in Israel issued a notice advising Chinese citizens in Israel to evacuate to safer areas within the country as soon as possible or to leave for Egypt via the Taba border crossing.

China’s foreign ministry also urged Chinese citizens in Iran to leave “as soon as possible”, listing four land routes to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and Iraq.

In a commentary on Sunday, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency criticised the attack, calling it “brazen aggression against a sovereign nation” and “power politics and hegemony”.

Xinhua said Washington’s use of military coercion was a “flagrant violation” of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and a departure from “fundamental norms of international relations”.

Payman condemns strike on Iranian girls’ school

Independent WA Senator Fatima Payman has condemned a reported strike on a girls’ elementary school in Iran as “not acts of liberation – they are civilian casualties”.

In a post to Facebook in the wake of the US-Israel attacks, Senator Payman described the killing of 108 people in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan as a “devastating loss”.

The reported strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, including the devastating loss of 85 schoolgirls, are not acts of liberation - they are civilian casualties,” she wrote.

“The Iranian regime is deeply oppressive. Its treatment of women, dissidents and minorities has been condemned for years. But bombing schools is not the answer.

“History has shown us, again and again, that you cannot bomb your way to ‘security’ or democracy.

“Australians do not want another endless war. They want affordable groceries. Housing. Healthcare. Stability. Peace.

“Australia should be using its voice to push for de-escalation, diplomacy and accountability, not silent compliance.”

Federal MPs, senators welcome Iran attacks

Chair of the parliamentary group “Australia-Israel Allies Caucus” Andrew Wallace has welcomed the attacks on Iran, saying the Islamic Republic had used its proxies to “fuel terror, extremism and unrest” since coming to power after the 1979 revolution.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Liberal MP issued a statement saying it marked a “pivotal moment in the pursuit of peace in the Middle East”.

“For too long, Iran has pursued nuclear capability, spread chaos across the region and ruthlessly suppressed its own people,” he said.

“Iran’s destabilising influence is not limited to the Middle East. The IRGC has also been instrumental in anti-Semitic attacks and foreign interference operations right here in Australia. It is high time that this regime faced real accountability for its actions.”
