Mississipi bridge collapse: Three dead, four injured after major incident at demolition site near Jackson
At least three people have died and four are critically injured after a Mississippi bridge, in the process of being demolished, collapsed, authorities say.
The bridge, which spanned the Strong River on State Route 149 near the town of D’Lo, had been closed to traffic since September 18 and reportedly collapsed while workers were attempting to demolish it as part of a bridge replacement initiative.
Emergency responders are at the incident site which is located about 45km southeast of downtown Jackson.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said the bridge over the Strong River on State Route 149 in Simpson County had been closed to traffic since September 18 and was under the care of contractor T.L. Wallace.
Details of how the accident occurred were not immediately available and the spokesperson Anna Ehrgott said the agency “would share more information with the public as it becomes available.”
