ADFA cadet Tain Stephen charged after hidden camera allegedly found in Canberra women’s bathroom
A disturbing find in a women’s bathroom at the Australian Defence Force Academy has prompted an arrest and charges.
An Australian Defence Force Academy cadet has been arrested and charged with five counts of capturing intimate visual data after a recording device was allegedly found in a women’s bathroom soap dispenser.
Tain Stephen, 20, was arrested and charged by ACT Police on Monday after a brief two-day investigation.
Police said they were called to the ADFA in Canberra on Saturday morning when “a resident and staff located a device allegedly hidden inside a soap dispenser in a shared bathroom”.

“After engagement with the operators and some residents of the facility, a person of interest was identified. Search warrants were then executed on the person’s room, electronic devices and vehicle with multiple items seized,” an ACT Police spokesman said.

“An examination of the memory card located in the device identified a large volume of imagery stored on the card.”
Mr Stephens appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court, where prosecutors alleged he conducted a “highly sophisticated operation” that involved the use of a wireless transmitter, an SD card and a powerbank.
He has yet to enter any pleas.
Defence has been contacted for comment.
