Security footage from the scene showed a motorbike rider racing down the street and turning a corner.
A police vehicle is then seen chasing after the rider, but it takes the corner too fast and spins out, crashing onto the train tracks.
Luckily, the officers were able to get out of the car, with the help of locals who say they were terrified as they rushed to their aid.
“There was smoke ... coming from the car, and that’s when we really thought this is serious,” one woman told 7NEWS.
Two police officers suffered minor injuries in the incident.
The police vehicle was removed quickly from the tracks, but locals say it was the second accident at the site in recent months.
“People come speeding up here ... they use it as a racetrack,” a local told NEWS.
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
