Astonishing CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a car crashed into a Sydney café, sending a woman to hospital.

Emergency services rushed to a café on Norton St in Leichhardt on Saturday morning after the vehicle crashed outside the venue, seriously injuring one woman who was pinned by the car.

The woman, aged 67, was rushed to hospital in a serious condition, with others assessed by paramedics.

CCTV captured the moment the grey BMW began slowing rolling towards a couple who were sitting at a table, unaware of what was about to happen.

Bystanders can be seen running towards the car to stop it however it was too late.

“It just floored it, it smacked straight through,” one of the bystanders Sean McKean said.

“It was very frightening to see.”

Other witnesses rushed in to help the pinned woman, pulling her out from in front of the car.

The elderly man she was sitting with can be seen pulling his dog from under the car.

One woman pulled the driver out the car who McKean described as “dazed and bewildered”.

“He didn’t talk, he didn’t moan, didn’t scream.”

The 34-year-old man began rummaging around for something in the front passenger seat of the car before he got back behind the wheel and drove off.

One bystander can be heard yelling: “Don’t go mate, don’t go.”

Police tracked down the man a short time later and he was arrested.

A short time later, officers tracked down the BMW and arrested the driver who was taken to the same hospital under police guard for assessment.

It is understood he will be charged when he is released.

The 67-year-old woman remains at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with leg and hip injuries in a stable condition.
