Police have seized a loaded handgun and drugs during a dramatic high-speed pursuit and arrest in Sydney.

The alleged offender was flagged for a random breath test on the Hume Highway, Villawood at about 4.15am on Friday morning, when he failed to stop as directed.

When the vehicle allegedly drove away, a pursuit was initiated by officers attached to Bankstown police area command.

It continued to Henry Lawson Drive, Georges Hall, where the sedan hit a parked car and the driver was arrested.

Police will allege when searched, a loaded handgun and drugs were found inside the sedan. They’ve been seized for further examination.

The driver was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.

The man has now been released into police custody and is being taken to Bankstown Police Station and inquiries are continuing.
