Lake Macquarie: One woman killed and other fighting for life after their car hit a telegraph pole

One woman has been killed and another is fighting for life after a serious crash on the mid-north coast of NSW on Thursday morning.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at Lake Macquarie at about 1.40am before emergency services responded to Main Road, Edgeworth, following calls for help.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie police district attended and found a car had crashed into a telegraph pole.

The driver of the car, a woman aged 31, died at the scene.

The passenger, a 33-year-old woman, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

A crime scene has been established as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
