Police have raided a house that was allegedly being used as a marijuana cultivation property, with plants growing in at least five rooms of the property.

Officers allegedly discovered the hydroponic cannabis crop during a raid on the Bolton Point house in Lake Macquarie around 12.30pm on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged illegal cultivation of cannabis in the area.

“During the search, police located and seized 83 established cannabis plants growing in five rooms of the house,” NSW police said in a statement.

“Electricians also attended and discovered that power to the house had allegedly been re-routed to avoid the meter box.”

The 60-year-old man was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with diverting the use of electricity for without authority, enhancing indoor cultivation of cannabis for commercial purposes, and cultivating cannabis greater than an indictable and less than commercial quantity.

He is due to face court on Tuesday.
