Hamilton Train Station: Newcastle man charged after alleged sexual assault of 14-year-old girl

A 37-year-old man has been charged after the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Newcastle.
Police allege the 14-year-old was approached by a man about 1.30am on August 15 while waiting at Hamilton Train Station, before being followed and sexually assaulted on Fern Street in Islington. The girl was later taken to the hospital for assessment.
Detectives from the sex crimes squad launched Strike Force Keyneton to investigate, with support from the raptor squad.

The Thornton man was arrested at the property and taken to Maitland Police Station, where he was charged with having sexual intercourse with a child between 14 and 16, and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Local Court 2 on Tuesday.
