Northern Beaches man due in court over alleged animal ‘torture’ of kangaroos in Lithgow, NSW

Police charged a Sydney man who is due in court on Wednesday, after CCTV vision emerged of unspeakable acts committed against a group of kangaroos in regional NSW.

A Northern Beaches’ man is due to appear in court after allegedly running over and mutilating several kangaroos earlier this year.

In September 2024, officers attached to Northern Beaches police area command commenced an investigation into animal cruelty after they located CCTV of an unknown vehicle deliberately running over kangaroos in Running Stream, 60km north of Lithgow.

Following extensive investigations, police charged a 20-year-old Balgowlah Heights man on Friday October 18 with torture, beat and seriously injure animal, recklessly beat and seriously injure animal, and driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.

The man was issued a future court attendance notice to appear before Manly Local Court.

Police will allege in court the man deliberately ran down several adult and baby kangaroos before mutilating the body of one of the animals.
