Popular swimming spots in Sydney’s Northern Beaches closed over shark sighting

A shark checking out a number of swimming spots caused the closure of several popular beaches on Saturday.
The ocean predator was spotted in the water off Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
North Curl Curl Beach was temporarily closed after a sighting in the morning, but reopened as Queenscliff and North Steyne were closed off to swimmers.

Queenscliff has since reopened, but North Steyne remains closed for what is believed to be unrelated reasons.
The marine mammal action didn’t end there — a young humpback whale was also spotted coming into Manly Cove on Saturday morning.
The whale was guided back between the headlands that form the entrance to Sydney Harbour, by NSW Maritime and Marine Rescue Middle Harbour vessel MH30, Marine Rescue NSW said on Instagram.
It is understood the whale will now continue its journey north.
The sighting is earlier than expected with the annual migration of humpback whales on the east coast usually kicking off closer to June.
