Police alleged when a 50-year-old woman returned to the car the sergeant tried to speak with her, but she became aggressive and assaulted the officer before returning the children to the car and driving off.

Police later arrested the woman at a home in Condell Park and took her to Bankstown Police Station.

She was charged with assaulting a police officer without bodily harm, leaving children in a motor vehicle causing emotional distress.

The woman is due to appear before the Bankstown Local Court on January 15.
