A man has been shot in an alleged attempted carjacking on the Gold Coast.

The 26-year-old man was confronted by another man who demanded his car keys about 6pm on Thursday, he told police.

He refused to hand over his keys, and the second man then pulled out a gun and shot him in the leg.

The injured man fled in his car, stopping near Mountain View Ave and Sunshine Pde in Miami, where paramedics were called.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said multiple teams were sent out, and the man was treated for a significant gunshot wound to the leg.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations into the shooting are ongoing.

“Anyone with further information or relevant vision along Mountain View Ave or Christine Ave and the immediate surrounding area between 5.45pm and 6.15pm is urged to contact police,” they said.
