The Gap: Queensland Police and AFP charge man with murder after woman found with fatal stab wound

A woman has been killed and a man is on the run, after a deadly attack at The Gap.

State police and the AFP have arrested and charged a man with murder after a woman was stabbed to death in Queensland.

A state-wide manhunt was initiated for the alleged offender who fled the scene after emergency respondors found the body of a woman in a property at Chestnut place, The Gap at around 4.30pm.

The 79-year-old woman’s body was found to have been fatally stabbed and she was declared dead at the scene.

An alert was issued and police tracked a 40-year-old Victorian man who was subsequently located at Brisbane Airport by Australian Federal Police at around 6.25pm before he was arrested and taken into custody.

The woman and man were known to each other and the alleged offender has since been charged with murder.

He has been remanded in custody and is due before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
