Officer: Man charged with child stealing after car stolen with five-year-old inside

A parents worst nightmare was realised when they returned walked out of a petrol station shop and realised their car had been stolen with their five-year-old son inside.

Cardinia crime investigation unit detectives have charged a man after he allegedly stole the car with the child inside in Officer on Saturday, November 16.

It is alleged the victim left his five-year-old son inside his running car while he went inside a Princes Highway service station at about 8.45am.

A man the allegedly jumped behind the wheel and drove off with the child inside.

The alleged offender drove the boy to Pakenham Police Station where he was arrested and the child was safely reunited with his father.

Detectives have since charged the 42-year-old Officer man with theft of a motor vehicle and child stealing.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court 28 November.
