Viral yodeller Mason Ramsey has come a long way since wowing shoppers with his versatile vocal cords at American retail stores, and is now a country singer in his own right.

Ramsey found success online in 2018 after footage of him busting out a Southern tune in Walmart dressed in jeans, boots, a white button-up, and red bow tie spread like wildfire.

The original video posted to YouTube has since amassed 90 million views and countless memes.

Capitalising on his overnight success, the tween was invited to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and even released a six-track EP in 2018 titled Famous, and a follow-up Twang in 2019.

Six years later, the precocious yodeller has emerged as a genuine musical talent and is now an adult at 18 years of age.

Making waves in 2024, Ramsey released his studio album I’ll See You In My Dreams, with hits Blue Over You and Before I Knew It combining for more than 70 million listens on Spotify.

In 2025, he released single Live Lonely and even recorded his first-ever stand-up special.

While clinging to the impressive yodel skills that launched his career, the teen has embraced his puberty blues and raspier vocals as he sings of heartache and growing up.

And his six million fans on social media have noticed.

Though not everyone can believe the same kid they laughed at seven years ago would turn out to be a very serious mover in the country scene.

“The f***** yodel kid dropped a mix tape?” one person said in response to Ramsey’s recent US tour posts.

“I been here since Walmart, and becoming a genuine fan of his work,” another added.

Others likened his sound to that of late American singer Roy Orbison, and suggested his music’s melancholic themes might be better suited to a mature audience.

“I can’t wait to listen to this while I down a bottle of Jameson in the shower,” one fan said.

Ramsey’s re-emergence has prompted introspection among many, with some followers shocked by the fleeting nature of time.

Or as one fan put it, “I feel old... seems like yesterday you were in Walmart”.

And of course Ramsey, who has heard the same rhetoric for his whole career, responded simply,“Why”.
