Clueless TV sequel in the works with Alicia Silverstone returning as Cher

How would a real-world Cher Horowitz react to news Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her iconic role in a Clueless TV sequel?
Would she think it was phat? Would she nonchalantly dismiss it as whatever? Or would she wrinkle her nose with an as if!
Confirmation came through overnight that a Clueless TV series is indeed in the works, and Silverstone is attached. It will be written and produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, best known for The OC and Gossip Girl, and the film’s director Amy Heckerling has an executive producer credit.

Nothing else is known about the project, what the possible story could be, and if any of the other cast members including Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison Jr, Breckin Meyer, Jeremy Sisto, Dan Hedaya and Elisa Donovan will be involved. Brittany Murphy, who played Tai, died in 2009.
With Clueless three months out from its 30th anniversary, the sequel would put Cher in her mid-to-late 40s.

The film was loosely adapted from Jane Austen’s Emma but reframed the story for 1990s Beverly Hills on privileged teenagers of the MTV generation.
Clueless was a huge success on its release and influenced global teen culture around the world with fashions (Cher had 59 costumes in the 90-minute movie) and Californian slang.
It also riffed heavily on contemporary pop culture with references ranging from Luke Perry and the Baldwin brothers to Kato Kaelin, a witness in the O.J. Simpson trial.
The movie has already spawned a TV spin-off which ran for three seasons but Silverstone was not involved as her film career had taken off. The role was recast with Canadian actor Rachel Blanchard while David Lascher took over the character of Josh.
Dash, Faison, Donovan, Wallace Shawn and Twink Caplan reprised their roles while Rudd, Meyer and Murphy made guest appearances but as different characters.
Six years ago, there had been an aborted attempt at a Clueless TV sequel but that one was to centre on Cher’s friend Dionne in a mystery-driven plot involving Cher’s disappearance.
Silverstone played the character a year ago for a series of Super Bowl ads for e-commerce brand Rakuten.
She and Sisto also reunited on screen in a four-episode mini-arc on the 2011 comedy series Suburgatory which made sly references to their history on Clueless.
