You wouldn’t expect to find “Texas” and “kangaroos” in the same sentence too often, yet bizarre vision has emerged of police in the southern US state attempting to wrangle the iconic Australian marsupial after one became loose and roamed the streets.

Waco Police Department posted the footage to its Instagram feed on Tuesday, declaring no officers or wildlife had been injured in the unique pursuit.

Surprisingly, it wasn’t the first time the local police department had been faced with such an encounter.

“HOP PURSUIT - Well … the first time this happened we said it wasn’t our typical patrol day, but now it’s just become ‘roo-tine’.🦘🚔,” the clip was captioned.“We’re happy to report this escape artist has returned home safe and sound.”

Making light of experience, the vision played to the tune of The Sugarhill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight.

Waco police said the kangaroo — named Bingus — had escaped from a local wildlife rescue.

Followers of the account jumped to the comments section to express their amusement.

“Are we sure this isn’t a missing episode from Reno 911?” one person asked.

“Poor creature was just exploring Waco!” another said.

“A little walkabout if you will. 😂,” the police department added.

There have been several similar instances in Texas over recent years where kangaroos have escaped from local dwellings and explored neighbourhoods.

Texas is reportedly one of 13 US states that allows residents to own kangaroos, which are considered exotic pets, with no permits required.

Waco Wildlife Rescue is a known non-profit animal sanctuary that rescues and rehabilitates such wildlife.
