Man travelling the world makes ‘punching’ claim about Australian men and dating

A man travelling the world says he has made a major discovery about the local dating scene and it’s not exactly flattering for Aussie men.

Bernie Moreira has gone viral after claiming Australian men have a remarkable habit of landing women who are, in his words, well and truly out of their league.

“There’s a phenomenon that happens in Australia, that now that I’m travelling the world I can observe and scientifically conclude it doesn’t happen anywhere else at the same rate,” Moreira says in a social media video.

“Australia clears.”

The phenomenon?

“That phenomenon is guys punching so severely above their weight.”

Moreira doesn’t hold back when explaining exactly what he means.

“I’m talking absolutely rockets with the most gremlin looking gentlemen,” he says.

The video has racked up more than 500,000 views on TikTok and attracted 772 comments, while the Instagram version has been viewed almost 300,000 times and received almost 4000 likes.

“You might say it’s the inside that matters and at least they treat them nice,” Moreira says.

“I have heard some of the stories.”

According to Moreira, the problem comes once these men realise they’ve managed to land someone they might not have expected to.

“You’d think that they’d be counting their lucky stars that they even looked at them in the first place,” he says.

“But no they get a bit of confidence and they start running a muck.”

Some TikTok users appeared to agree with Moreira’s assessment of Australian men.

“Can confirm as an Aussie woman. The treatment from men here is so bad. I dated an American and felt like I was swept off my feet just being treated kindly by a man,” one woman wrote.

Another commenter offered a much simpler explanation for Moreira’s observation.

“it’s cause all women are hot in Australia,” they wrote.

The comments suggest Moreira’s theory has struck a nerve, with some viewers arguing the standards for Australian men have become particularly low.

“The bar is indeed low and a lot of us women are just choosing the single life now,” one commenter wrote.

Another commenter, who identified himself as a gay Australian, said he was equally baffled.

“Gay Aussie here. I cannot believe the calibre of men, women settle for in this country… it blows my mind!” they wrote.

Someone else thanked Moreira for calling out what they saw as poor behaviour from Australian men.

“Thank you for calling out the Aussie guys that have forgotten how to treat their ladies right,” they wrote.

But one commenter offered a more generous explanation for why some women might choose men who aren’t traditionally considered attractive.

“I think some girls feel safer with a guy who isn’t typically ‘hot’,” they wrote.

“Could also be the girl not realising she’s actually a ‘rocket’ because no ‘hot’ guys have ever made her feel that way.”

Whether he’s right is another question, but the reaction suggests Moreira has hit on a topic plenty of people have an opinion on.
