An Australian man has died in Thailand after a freak incident at a popular Phuket restaurant.

Police were called to the Cappadocia Turkish Restaurant in Karon about 10.30pm on December 11 following reports of a disturbance involving a foreign man.

It’s understood the man entered the restaurant alone and sat at a table, with his odd behaviour quickly drawing attention from nearby diners.

Officers say the man appeared disorientated, repeatedly nodding his head which prompted several patrons to move away from him.

Moments later, the man suddenly stood up and ran toward the glass door while yelling.

Staff inside the restaurant were left stunned as he slammed into the glass pane, shattering it on impact before collapsing outside.

Patrons say that screams were heard on impact and blood gushed from his leg.

When local authorities arrived, they found the restaurant’s glass door shattered and a large pool of blood on the floor.

The Australian had already been rushed to Chalong Hospital, where he later died from severe blood loss caused by a deep cut to his right leg.

Thai police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
