Harris shocks with surprise day one appearance
Biden starts to rip into Donald Trump
“Donald Trump promised infrastructure week? Every week for four years.
“And he never built a damn thing,” Biden said.
“But now because of what Kamala and I have done,” Biden said before rephrasing.
“Remember he told you we couldn’t get it done, remember when we came to office, we couldn’t get anything passed?
“Right now we’re giving America an infrastructure decade, not a week.”
‘Soon-to-be President Harris’
“More Americans have peace of mind that comes from having health insurance.
“More Americans have health insurance today than ever before in American history, Biden said.
“And after, as a young senator beginning the fight for 50 years to give Medicare to power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices, we finally beat big pharma.
“And guess who cast the tie-breaking vote?
“Vice-president soon-to-be president Kamala Harris!”
Biden is taking a victory lap and that work is part Harris
Biden is taking the opportunity to take a victory, boasting about all that he has achieved since taking office. However, he wants to share the credit with Harris.
“I made a commitment to you that I would be a president for all Americans, whether you voted for me or not.
“We have done that. Studies show the major bills we have passed delivered more to red states than blue.
“Because the job of the President is to deliver to all Americans.
“And because of you, I’m not exaggerating, because of you, we’ve had the most extraordinary four years of progress ever, period.
“When I say we, I mean Kamala and me.
“We have gone from an economic crisis to the strongest economy in the entire world.
“Record 60 million new jobs. Record small business growth. Record high stock market, record high 401ks, wages up, inflation down, way down, and continuing to go down.
“The smallest racial wealth gap in 20 years.
“And, yes, we both know we have more to do. But we’re moving in the right direction.”
Biden’s America is not a place for hate
“As your President, I’ve been determined to keep America moving forward, not going back,” Biden said.
“To stand against hate and violence in all its forms.
“To be a nation where we not only live but thrive on diversity.
“Demonising no one, leaving no one behind, and becoming a nation that we profess to be.”
Nazis, white supremacists and why Biden ran for President.
“We’re facing an inflexion point, one of the rare moments in history where the decisions we make now will determine the fate of our nation and the world for decades to come,” Biden said.
“That’s not hyperbole, I mean it literally.
“We’re in the battle for the very soul of America.
“I ran for president in 2020 because of what I saw in Charlottesville, in August of 2017.
“Extremists coming out of the woods, carrying torches.
“Their veins bulging from their necks, carrying nazi swastikas.
“Neo-nazis, white supremacists, so emboldened by the president in the White House they saw an ally, they didn’t even bother to wear their hoods.
“Hate was on the march in America.
“Old ghosts in new garments, stirring up the oldest division, stoking the oldest fears, giving oxygen to the oldest forces that they long sought to tear apart America.
“In the process, a young woman was killed.
“When I contacted her mother to ask what happened, she told me. When the president (Trump) asked what he thought had happened, Donald Trump said and I quote, ‘There are very fine people on both sides’.
“My God. That’s what he said.”
“So I ran,” Biden said to the cheering crowd.
‘Democracy has prevailed’
“You cannot say you love your country only when you win,” Biden said.
“That moment, I wasn’t looking to the past, I was looking to the future. I spoke to the work at hand.
“The moment we had to meet, it was as I told you then, a winter of peril and possibility. A peril and possibility we’re in the grip of a once-in-a-century pandemic, historic joblessness, and a call for racial justice long overdue.
“Clear and present threats to our very democracy.
“Now it’s summer. The winter has passed. And with a grateful heart, I stand before you now, on this August night, to report that democracy has prevailed.”
Biden talks about taking the presidency after the January insurrection
“Nearly four years ago, in winter, on the steps of the Capitol, on a cold January day, I raised my right hand and I swore an oath to you and to god, to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution,” Biden said.
“To faithfully execute the office of the president of the United States.
“In front of me was the city surrounded by the National Guard, behind me a Capitol that two weeks before, was overrun by a violent mob.
“What I knew then, from the bottom of my heart, and I know now, there’s no place in America for political violence, none.
Joe Biden loves America
‘America, I love you!’ Biden said.
“Let me ask you, are you ready to vote for freedom?
“YES,” the crowd responded.
“Are you ready to vote for a democracy and for America?” Biden asked.
“YES,” the crowd responded again.
“Are you ready to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz?” Biden asked.
You guessed it, “YES,” the crowd responded a third time.
The crowd won’t let Joe Biden start
The crowds are still cheering, with the US president waiting and the podium to start his speech.
It is clear the room loves him and is making sure he knows it.
Emotional Joe Biden takes to the stage
Overcome with emotion, US President Joe Biden has taken to the stage, hugging his daughter with tears in his eyes.
As he took to the podium, an enormous reaction came from the crown who were holding ‘We love Joe’ signs.
The president took a moment to wipe away tears, as he watched the adoring Democrat audience show their respect and admiration for the US President.
The crowd kept applauding and chatting ‘We love Joe’ for over a minute.
