QUARTER-TIME GWS 2.5 (17) Sydney 1.4 (10)

THE BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE IS ON.

Toby Greene gives away a free kick to Papley right on the siren and there’s plenty of words and push and shove. He’s way too far out to score but that doesn’t stop him piling on Greene as tensions boil over.

It’s all diffused relatively quickly and the amrgin is seven points. The Giants dominated that quarter but outside of Jesse Hogan they were wasteful allowing the Swans to keep in touch as they look to re-set at the break.

Another miss

James Peatling wins a free-kick after a high tackle from Heeney. But from 15m out directly in front, he sprays it to the right. Add that to the Greene miss before the Rowbottom goal and those are massive let-offs.

Rowbottom with some magic

Greene misses a sitter. The Swans miss two tackles but Greene running into the open goal misses to the right. The ball goes down the other end and despite another poor entry they repeat efforts and Rowbottom then snaps a remarkable goal.

Hogan has two

Swans continue to butcher the football inside 50 as a grubber kick gives their forwards no chance to get some clean footy.

The Giants rebound and it’s that man Hogan who does it again finding enough space to throw a kick on the boot and squeeze it through from the contest.

Swans can’t convert early opportunites

The Swans have recorded the last four inside 50s but so far have just the two behinds to show for it.

They haven’t been able to take a mark yet with many of the entries going out wide or dump kicks to the contest

Early desperation

The Giants look like they’re out again but a desperate tackle runs down Lachie Whitfield and the Swans go forward. Amarty can’t win the one on one and sees it over the boundary for a throw-in. Heeney and Luke Parker already have eight disposals between them.

The Coleman medallist gets his first

The Giants win the ball at half-back and Coniglio finds Hogan who presents to take the mark right on 50. He’s about 55 out when he walks back to take the shot but he nails it to give the Giants the first goal of the game.

We’re underway

Chad Warner runs through the first bounce by misses the ball as the Giants go forward.

Syndey intercept in the defensive 50 and transition up the wing but the kick inside 50 is rushed through for the first score of the afternoon.

We’re almost underway

The anthems are done and the players are getting into position.

The Giants win the toss and will be kicking to the right of the boradcast.
