RECAP: Waalitj Marawar (West Coast) in emotional clash with Euro-Yroke (St Kilda)
Waalitj Marawar (West Coast) produced a spirited win on an emotional day against Euro-Yroke (St Kilda) after the sudden passing of Adam Selwood.
Selwood’s death at just 41 rocked the AFL and WA football worlds and the Eagles paid tribute to the former premiership player against the Saints.
It was a fitting time for the club to get their breakthrough win for 2025 as co-captain Oscar Allen returned to the field and the forward line.
And they played one of their best halves of the season to give themselves a winning feeling.
Recap all of the action from our blog.
BIG NEWS!
Waalitj Marawar coach Andrew McQualter has confirmed Allen’s experiment in defence is over, at least for the start of this clash.
He was a late out last week and youngster Harry Edwards performed admirably against premiership Tiger Tom Lynch.
It is enough for McQualter to keep Edwards as the main key defender and send the co-captain back to his more natural position in the forward line.

Oscar returns!
Oscar Allen leads the Eagles out onto Optus and through a banner celebrating the club’s First Nations talent.
The team are wearing their special Sir Doug Nicholls round jumpers sporting a white Eagle dissecting the blue and gold.
Liam Ryan and Tyler Brockman stopped to pose for special photos with their young children.
A clubman and champion of the west
Adam Selwood was remembered on Saturday as the ultimate clubman by former teammates and coaches.
Boots with style!
Liam Ryan, Tyler Brockman and Harley Reid will be sporting special boots for Sir Doug Nicholls round celebrating local Indigenous culture.
And they are looking mint!
Eagles sub
For the second week in a row Tom Gross will be the Eagles’ sub.
He had major impact off the pine for the side against Richmond at the MCG last Sunday and came within two steps of potentially getting his side a win before a tackle ran him down.
He will be one to watch when he gets on the field today.
Early tributes
Waalitj Marawar took to social media to commorate Adam Selwood’s career at the club ahead of the Saints contest.

Welcome!
The crowd is already swelling at Optus Stadium as both sides go through their final warm-ups.
Today will be a celebration of both Sir Doug Nicholls round as well as former premiership Eagle Adam Selwood.
Selwood died aged just 41 on Saturday, 102 days after the tragic loss of his twin brother Troy.
The Eagles will have a moment of silence before play and be wearing black armbands.
Can they get past the Saints for an emotional first win, or will the moment prove too much?
