RECAP: West Coast Eagles go down to Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium
West Coast battled hard after halftime and ensured they would not be heading home with a triple-figure hiding under their belt.
However, they were well out-matched by the Hawks as the home side ran out 50-point victors.
Co-captain Oscar Allen’s move to defence failed to help the visitors get a foothold in the game, with the Hawks banging through nine first-half goals - including Allen’s opponent Mabior Chol booting two.

Hawthorn have had the wood on the Eagles on and off the field in recent seasons and it continued on Sunday.

West Coast showed fight in the second half but went down by 50 points to Hawthorn. How would you sum it up, Eagles fans?

The Eagles could have been put right to the sword today but they put in an improved effort in the second half to avoid a mammoth blowout.
Harley Reid led the improvements as the defence led from the front under intense pressure.
They will be glad the home side kicked 16 behinds from their more than 30 scoring shots.
Hough did well with 23 touches playing in the midfield but still has a lot to learn as Hawthorn owned that area.
West Coast looked dangerous when they got their forward handballs working but there was too much room for error in their plans and they made all of them.
Maric ends with 25 disposals while Liam Baker was brave to get 24 plus two clearances playing between half-back and the midfield.
Ryan was good up forward, it just did not go there enough while Allen is not much of a defender and him up back can’t be a long-term experiment.
Small rewards
The Eagles get two in a row to reduce the margin after a smart crumb from Ryan allows him to run into an open goal before sub Noah Long soccers one off the deck after a centre clearance got the ball forward.
They press forward again from the next bounce but Jack Williams has to get off with the blood rule to halt their momentum.

Good pressure
Cripps gets a goal off the back of good pressure.
He caught Hardwick holding the ball and slotted the goal.
However, it was a burst and run from Allen out of the backline that set up the chance.
He left Barrass to gather a half-volley before chipping the ball to Baker.
The umpire called “not 15” so Allen ran on, took the handball recieve and delivered the ball into the forward half.
Great signs for the Eagles’ heart.
