More Bowls news
Ellen Fife is off to a winning start in the women’s singles.
She went down in the first set to Canada’s Kelly McKerihen but rallied well in the second.
She then took out the tiebreaker in a nice confidence boost.
Earlier
Aaron Wilson was fought for a bronze medal earlier in the day after he was upset in the semifinal.
It didn’t go any better for him with a medal on the line either.
The first end was scored 4-4 but his Northern Ireland rival Gary Kelly won on measurements.
The second end wasn’t even close with the Aussie going down 2-9 to miss the podium.
Canada star
Canada have won gold and bronze to close the gymnastics action.
Felix Dolci ends on the top step and the Canadians have had a top run in all of the artistic disiplines.
Not his Games
It’s not been the Games Ritam Malik would like and he will miss the medals in the horizontal bar final.
To be fair, it’s been a very high quality display and he is not that fair away from the podium.
Last artistic event
Ritam Malik scores 12.833 to start the final of the men’s horizontal bar final, which is also the final artistic gymnastics event of the Games.
It is unlikely to be enough to get on the podium but maybe he can get lucky.
So unlucky
Despite breaking a Commonwealth Games record, Kiana Elliott has missed out on a medal in the women’s 63kg weightlifting final.
Her combined total of 214kg was better than the record but three other comeptitiors went even better.
Only three kgs seperated second to fourth, however, gold was won by Maude Charron of Canada with a brilliant total of 232kg.
Mouthwatering swimming dual
Later tonight the Aussies will be back in the pool and you do not want to miss the 50m butterfly semifinals!
Here’s why.
Can’t win ‘em all
Godwin and McDonald have been knocked out of the medal positions for the floor final.
Shantae-Eve Amankwaah of England has jumped into silver while Canadian Lia-Monica Fontaine is in bronze at just 17-years-old.
More medal chances
Kate McDonald and Georgia Godwin are currently in the silver and bronze medal positions of the women’s floor routine final.
Abigail Martin of England is in the lead.
28-year drought
Jesse Moore’s win on the parallel bars breaks a 28-year drought in the event for the Aussies.
And he was pretty chuffed about it.
“I’m pretty stoked,” he told Channel 7.
“I don’t think it will sink in until I hear the anthem on the podium, but coming off the back of yesterday as well, not a great day, so I’m pretty stoked.
“It’s always special representing Australia, especially at a Commonwealth Games, and better yet to get a gold. It’s a dream.
“To finally do that, especially off the back of the last Games, you know, with an injury it’s a bit of redemption, and it definitely feels good.”
