Injury to Emma Clark has left the Gangurru’s a woman short for the rest of the tournament, but who needs rotations when you can score as quickly as Atwell.

The Aussies flashy scoring was complemented by intense defence led by Lara McSpadden.

It took a foul to break Jamaica’s scoring drought, finally getting a bucket down 10 – which Atwell promptly responded with another deep dagger.

There was nothing Jamaica could do to stop Australia’s momentum and the sides looked heavily mismatched.

Women’s look to follow men

Matthew Richardson pulls out

Australian defector Matthew Richardson has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games.

The Great Britain cycling team announced that he will not take part due to injury, denying a rematch against his former Aussie teammates.

Australia will not get the chance at a spicy rematch against the Perth raised athlete, who sensationally defected to England after winning two medals for the green and gold at the 2022 Olympic Games.

The bitter rivalry was built up as one of the most highly anticipated sub-plots in this Commonwealth Games, but fans have been robbed the opportunity to see the clash following the injury.
