Commonwealth Games: Live coverage of Day 7 from Glasgow

It was another incredible night in Glasgow for Australia, adding eight medals to the tally on day seven. Catch up on all the action in our live blog.

Law misses out

Calab Law placed fifth in the second men’s 200m semi in 20.60 as he faded late.

It’a all down to Lachie Kennedy now to try and get an Aussie in the final.

A big first day at the velodrome

It’s a shame the men’s team sprint went ahead without Matthew Richardson, but Australia will feel pretty good about taking it out after the war of words in the lead-up.

Men sprint to gold redemption!

The sprinters have gotten redemption for Australia, running over England for a well deserved gold medal.

Ryan Elliott shot out the gate to set up teammates Leigh Hoffman and Daniel Barber who brought it home in 29.644.

The bronze race was over before it started, Trinidad and Tabago earn their first medal in Commonwealth Games history after one of Wales’ racers was ruled out by the medical team in a bizarre set of circumstances.

Men’s 200m semifinals underway

Three semifinal heats with Australia’s fastest man, Lachie Kennedy, in the last one.

Top two athletes to go through to the final plus the next two fastest.

Another Aussie, Aidan Murphy, is in action in heat one.

There’s plenty of nerves as he almost false-starts, but there’s a green card as the field resets.

His second start is a little better but not great and he can’t find another gear after coming around the ben as he crosses the line seventh in 20.7

Sprint women leave empty handed

A messy start for the women in the sprint finals cost them a medal in the bronze race against Scotland.

The Australia squad couldn’t recover their slow start and it costs them a spot on the podium.

Diamonds thrash Northern Ireland for Games finals berth

The all-conquering Diamonds have bulldozed Northern Ireland 88-27 to punch Australia’s ticket to the Commonwealth Games netball semi-finals.

Australia demolished Northern Ireland to claim a 61-goal victory for the second time in Glasgow, outgunning the netball minnows to remain undefeated after five matches and finish at the top of pool A on Friday morning (AEST).

Northern Ireland finish the pool stage without registering a win, while Diamonds coach Stacey Marinkovich takes Australia to Saturday’s semi-finals and are primed to play world No.3 Jamaica.

Aussies go down in Ashes on Wheels

The men couldn’t follow in the women’s lead, losing a scrappy gold medal to new world-record holder England.

It was as close as it could be, with the thinnest margins separating the two team once each hit the halfway mark.

But England managed to jump ahead and the Aussie men couldn’t close the gap once the pressure mounted, finishing with a silver time of 3.48.223.

England set a new games record with their 3.47.092 finish to claim gold.

The women’s team pursuit final was a thrilling win for Australia, now it’s time for the men to take home the top prize against England.

Record-breaking gold as Aussie cyclists deny Kiwi rivals

Australia pulled out a record breaking ride to complete an epic comeback against longtime rivals New Zealand in the 4000m team pursuit decider.

The squad of Georgia Baker, Claudia Marcks, Alyssa Polites and Felicity Wilson-Haffenden broke the Commonwealth Games record with a 4.10.658 ride to take out the gold medal at the Glasgow Velodrome. Sophie Edwards was replaced by Baker after the qualifier.

It was a thrilling ride between the two cycling heavy weights, Australia had to fight until the end against the pre-race favourites.
