Commonwealth Games: Live coverage of Day 7 from Glasgow

It was another incredible night in Glasgow for Australia, adding eight medals to the tally on day seven. Catch up on all the action in our live blog.

Velodrome finals

While in the Velodrome medal races are about to kick off, giving Australia a good chance to go on another gold rush in the absence of swimming.

The women’s tandem sprint is up first with Jessica Gallagher taking on New Zealand’s Emma Foy for gold.

The Aussie will be piloted by Jacquelin Mengler-Mohr in the best of three battle.

Pool final for Diamonds

The Diamonds fifth and final pool match is about to start and they will be looking to make it a clean sweep.

Already holding four wins to their name, it would take an almighty upset to stop them from running the table against the 0-4 Ireland team.

Silver Ferns impress

Netball world number two New Zealand have sent a message after their 83-23 thrasing over Trindad and Tobago.

The Diamonds are yet to face a worthy test this Commonwealth Games, and New Zealand could be that potential roadblock should the two sides face.

Australia face Ireland in half an hour in their final pool match.

Married At First Sight star’s Games date falls flat

He may have been Married At First Sight - but Australian reality TV star Ridge Barredo’s third date with the Commonwealth Games has ended in calamity as he hobbled away on crutches.

Barredo, who became a celebrity when he got hitched on the hit Australian TV show three years ago, was cheered on at Glasgow’s Armadillo Arena by his partner Jade Pywell and stepdaughter Victoria as he sought to win a medal after finishing eighth and fifth at the previous two Games.

But the 30-year-old, competing in the 110kg light-heavyweight class, collapsed, writhing in pain after failing with his third and final clean-and-jerk attempt at 190kg.

Australia qualify fastest in men’s team sprint at Games

Australia are business as usual after Matt Richardson’s stunning withdrawal and have qualified fastest in the men’s team sprint at Commonwealth Games track cycling.

Richardson was due to fly into Glasgow from Japan on Thursday’s opening day of the Games track cycling program.

But the England team dropped a bombshell on Wednesday, announcing he was out of the Games because of his crash earlier this week while racing in the Japan keirin series.

Pole Vault champ Nina Kennedy on dual mission in Glasgow

Olympic pole vault gold medallist Nina Kennedy is on a dual mission in Glasgow — defend her Commonwealth Games title and send her body 5m into orbit.

The West Australian will happily take the gold on its own in a discipline that demands equal parts courage, daring and athleticism.

But breaking the 5m barrier is a cherished goal and Kennedy is tantalisingly close.

As the rain starts to drizzle on the track, the final athletics heats have wrapped up ahead of the day seven finals.

Young sprinter Thomas Reynolds surprised with a definitive heat win that puts him squarely into the 400m final.

While national champion Reece Holder didn’t have an ideal race, failing to qualify in a heartbreaking finish.

Barber blasts men into gold race

Australia held on to their blistering start and have guarenteed their spot in the team sprint gold medal race.

Daniel Barber’s final lap helped increase their gap and get over the line in a blazing 42.754 - beating greenshoots Trinidad and Tobago’s time by the slimmest margins.

They will face England, in another medal race that should feature traitor Matt Richardson.

Hull on cruise control in strong women’s mile

Jess Hull has put in a professional performance to cruise through her women’s mile heat ahead of starring in the 5000m final later tonight.

The Australian track star was helped by the slow pace set over the opening laps, but never looked stressed, even as the pace increased.

She effectively jogged over the line in second as she qualified for the next stage comfortably.

Medal still on offer

A medal will still be on offer for the Aussie women’s team sprint trio, but the best they can do is bronze.

Their 47.618 was fourth fastest of the five sides, knocking New Zealand out of contention.
