Can Australia produce a big turnaround to get the series back on an even keel in the Second Test?

Pat Cummins’ side will be desperate for a response following their rout in Perth, but it won’t be easy without Josh Hazlewood and against an Indian side bolstered by the return of skipper Rohit Sharma.

Stay across all the latest action below, with play due to start at midday WA time.

India 4-86

It’s Boland and Starc in the action upon resumption, and the tourists have looked largely untroubled.

There’s good news from Adelaide as far as the weather is concerned, with the rain appearing as though it’ll steer clear of the ground.

We’re back

All is in readiness for the second session, where the twilight kicks in and anything can happen!

There’s some rain in the wider area but it appears to staying out of the Adelaide Oval frame for now. Fingers crossed that continues.

Rohit has passed 23 just once in his previous 10 innings before this one... and India will be very keen for a return to form for the skipper as he looks to help set up a competitive total here.

DINNER BREAK: India 4-82

A rollercoaster of a session comes to an end! No shortage of entertainment there.

Starc provided the dream start, India fought back strongly through Gill and Rahul, before those two and Kohli succumbed in the final 25 minutes to get Australia back on top.

Starc’s got 3-31 and has reprised his strong start from Perth, with Boland chipping in late - and would’ve had a second if not for an overstep.

Pant (4no) and Rohit (1no) will look to rebuild.

We’ll return after the 40-minute intermission to see the lights start to take effect in Adelaide!

ANOTHER ONE!

And now Gill has to go!

Boland gets his wicket in his seventh over, pinning the No.3 in front and it’s given - with no objection or review. Full and around off and completely missed.

That’s a MONSTER wicket on the stroke of the break!

Rohit Sharma comes to the crease at No.6 - where he hasn’t batted since 2018 - and it’s 4-81. Aussies on top now!

Chris Robinson

Kohli GONE!

Virat Kohli’s gone - and Starc strikes again!

He half leaves, half plays at one and can only offer an edge to Steve Smith in the cordon. That’s a big moment!

Virat’s on his way for 7 in similar style to the Rahul dismissal, and it’s now 3-77 in the shadows of the dinner break. Rishabh Pant the new man, and Starc has been superb with 3-27.

Chris Robinson

BREAKTHROUGH: Starc again!

Starc replaces Cummins and has an IMMEDIATE impact!

Rahul can’t handle the extra bounce and offers a chance for Nathan McSweeney, who dives to his right at gully and completes a fine catch.

Fair to say Australia needed that one as the dinner break approaches. Rahul goes for 37 and it’s 2-69.

Chris Robinson

India 1-67

Nathan Lyon is into the attack for the first time but he can’t slow the steady flow of runs here.

Rahul moves to 35 with another lovely push through the covers, and he’s now continuing the form that saw him notch 26 and 77 in Perth.

There’s 25 minutes for the Aussies to hunt a breakthrough ahead of the dinner intermission.

Plenty in the house

There’s in excess of 36,000 at Adelaide Oval - and you’d expect that number to swell for the final two sessions as the Friday workday wraps up and people make their way over the bridge from the CBD to the ground.

It’s been a much-hyped and well-attended series so far!

Runs flowing

After failing to concede a run from his first 22 deliveries, Cummins has now gone for 16 off his next 14 deliveries as the shackles loosen a little.

India have reached 1-53 as Boland continues. We’re coming up to an hour-and-a-half since the stunning Starc opening...

Chris Robinson

No-ball... and no edge!

Just in case there wasn’t enough drama to go with the KL Rahul no-ball dismissal...
