Lyon’s struggles
It’s been a rough series for Nathan Lyon.
The 37-year-old has just three wickets from 72 overs and counting - at a strike rate of one wicket every 144 deliveries. He’s finding some good areas but hasn’t yet been able to find the breakthrough...
India 2-119
Kohli is now 23 and playing a brilliant supporting role for Jaiswal (61).
The veteran relishes the big moment and relishes even more the prospect of being the hero - or anti-hero as the MCG stage has set here.
King Konstas
This was Sam Konstas revving up the crowd earlier!
What a breath of fresh air this kid is... loving every moment of his Test debut.
India 2-109
The tourists are in cruise control now as Jaiswal launches the counter-attack!
He passes 50 and is having few issues with Lyon and Starc to provide some sort of response.
What a series we’re having... but the bad news is that there’s a bit of rain on the radar for tomorrow!
DRINKS: India 2-82
A maiden from Lyon before the drinks break!
Konstas is out on the rope firing up the crowd with some stretches... the home fans are keen for a wicket or two in the run home here. Can the Aussies provide it to really put the foot on the throat to close out Day 2?
India 2-82
As Kohli clips Starc off his legs for four... it’s time for some spin!
Nathan Lyon is into the attack for the first time in the Test.
Four of the 10 wickets to fall in the Aussie innings were from spin, with Jadeja snaring Konstas, Cummins and Starc, and Washington Sundar getting Labuschagne in cheap fashion.
Record crowd
There’s more than 80,000 in the house - a record for Day 2 in a Boxing Day Test.
Boland is desperate to give the crowd what they want by claiming a scalp, but despite probing and keeping it tight with 0-15 from 8, he’s still searching.
Starc returns
It is indeed the return of Starc to replace Cummins. He removed Kohli in the first innings in Adelaide with an edge to slip as he ran amok.
Meanwhile, on the boundary, Scott Boland signs a bald man’s head... yep, you read that right!
(Would’ve been better if it had been Travis Head instead, right?)
Kohli boundary!
It’s the day’s first four for Virat, with a lovely push through cover to dispatch Cummins.
The skipper might be about to hand over to Starc, as he’s just starting to leak runs here. He’s got the two scalps but has also gone at more than five an over.
India are 2-71... how much will Kohli relish the task of playing with his back to the wall?
India 2-64
Jaiswal now has his second-highest score of the series, behind the majestic 161 he peeled off in Perth.
He’s 33 and Kohli is 3 as the Aussies look to get stuck into this middle order.
