Cricket: Day 1 in Adelaide had no shortage of talking points - so what will Day 2 bring?

Australia resume at 8-326, but it could have been a better position for England had a DRS error not gone against them to help Alex Carey notch a ton.

The tourists will be looking to wrap up two quick wickets and then bat for a long chunk of time - in forecast 37C heat - to put the pressure back on the home side.

Relive the day in our blog below!

Set to go

The players and umpires are making their way out to the middle, and it appears we’ll see Jofra Archer with ball in hand to begin proceedings. It’s the new ball that was used for just three overs before stumps last night.

Starc will be on strike and we’re ready to see what Day 2 brings!

Starc sizzling

Mitchell Starc is the Player of the Series so far by a considerable length - and it’s not just because of his superb work with the ball.

Starc has piled on 122 runs from juts three innings so far - more runs than any England batter not named Joe Root.

And his current series average of 61 with the bat is behind only Alex Carey, who boosted his to 65 after yesterday’s ton.

As he gets set to resume on 33, can he push things further with bat in hand this morning to continue to be a thorn in England’s side?

Weather update

It’s set to be a blazing one in Adelaide today, with a forecast top of 37C.

That’s in England’s favour as they get set to bat for a fair chunk of the day, providing they can steer clear of some of the poor decision-making and shot selection that’s plagued them in the first two Tests, of course.

It’s already 33C out in the middle, and there’s already a packed crowd in attendance, more than 20 minutes before the first ball on this last Thursday before Christmas.

It’s clear plenty of fans aren’t taking the risk to leave attendance to the weekend’s Day 4 and Day 5 after what they’ve seen in the first two Tests of the series with how quickly things have moved!

DRS review reinstated

England will get one of their reviews back after yesterday’s drama that cost them the wicket of Alex Carey.

It’s understood the tourists won’t be charged for an unsuccessful review in the wake of Snicko’s supplier taking ‘full responsibility’ for an error.

England great David Lloyd is NOT happy about the DRS set-up:

Welcome

Hello and welcome to our coverage of Day 2 from Adelaide!

We’re set for a HOT one - and it’s vital for England that they remove these two remaining wickets quickly, and bat for a huge chunk of time. The future of Bazball may depend on it.

For the Aussies? Well, they’ll be looking for more Mitch Starc heroics. He’s again providing stubborn resistance with the bat and then will be eyeing plenty more damage with ball in hand.

There’s been one early win for England already today before play has even started, however...
