Hollywood royalty Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have starred in a cheeky video with the Australian SailGP team, the BONDS Flying Roos, ahead of the prestigious world-class race’s first event in Perth.

The famous actors co-own the Aussie team, with chief executive officer and skipper Tim Slingsby.

Slingsby and his teammates stripped down to their underwear for the video, released on Tuesday.

In the clip which showed the actors going to their first ‘race briefing’, Reynolds encouraged Jackman to “picture them all in their underwear, it calms you down a little bit”.

“How do you think I got through hosting all those award shows?” Jackman replied.

Slingsby told the duo their contract with BONDS, their title sponsor, specified “we’re only supposed to wear them”.

The Olympic gold medallist said in a statement the partnership with BONDS, Jackman and Reynolds brought “great energy to the team”.

“It’s fun, it’s fast-moving and it matches the way we like to go racing – competitive, focused and not taking ourselves too seriously,” Slingsby said.

BONDS head of marketing Kedda Ghazarian said the company was “super excited” about another epic season with the BONDS Flying Roos.

“With Hugh and Ryan at the helm, this gives fans a sneak peek into what goes on in the ‘briefing room’ – and our secret weapon, comfy undies,” she said.

The Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix kicks off in Fremantle this weekend with 13 international teams promising exciting high-speed foil racing, never seen before in Western Australia.

Perth, known for its consistent high wind strength and challenging sea states, joins locations such as Dubai, New York and Rio on the list of iconic global host cities for the event, and will officially launch the sixth season of SailGP.

SailGP’s Ggobal head of events Mike Webb has promised Perth spectators will see some nail-biting racing.

“This is premium close-to-shore stadium racing. There will be 13 boats on the start line for the first time ever,” he said.

“It will be really close-quarters racing on a congested course, it will be really exciting for fans.”
