Richardson rides on
Following his World record qualifier run, Matthew Richardson has smashed out his 1/32 heat in the men’s cycling sprint.
Cycling against Jaïr Tjon En Fa from Suriname, the WA talent flew through the heat as he continues to dominate the competition.
Wind at last...
Word from Marsielle is that the wind is picking up...
That means Matt Wearn might finally get his chance to sail for gold in the men’s dinghy.
He is currently in the box seat heading into the medal race.
Aussie’s fall to France
The Australian women’s team pursuit side could not match the success of their brothers, losing to France with a time of 4:09.975.
Their time have already been beaten by another four sides, putting them out of the running to race for a medal.
On to the repechage
25-year-old cycler Chloe Moran will need to go better in the repechage after finishing last her Keirin heat.
A gold medalist in the 2022 Commonwealth games for the team pursuit, she will need a strong run in the repechage for a chance to add to her collection.
Too close for Clonan
Kristina Clonan is on to the repechage round in the women’s Keirin cycling, finishing her heat in fourth place.
Only the top two were able to move on, and Clonan was just off the mark by 0.160.
Green on par
Hannah Green proved to be calm on the green, putting herself a par in the 14th hole in the women’s golf.
It puts the Perth’s product stoke count at +2, leaving room to improve on the first day of action.
Lee blunders the birdie
In the women’s golf action, Perth’s Minjee Lee is on the back foot at equal 25th following a blundered putt.
Going for the birdie, she was just wide to put her stroke count +1 and now chasing the leaders at -2 early.
Short lived record
Matthew Richardson held the cycling track sprint world record for all of five minutes until Netherlands’ Harrie Lavreysen one upped him.
The Dutch cyclist beat Richardson’s time by just 0.003 seconds, but the WA local will have a chance to reclaim it in the medal run.
Ride Richo Ride - World Record Smashed
Following his bronze medal efforts in the team sprint yesterday, WA’s Matthew Richardson has set a new world record with a time of 9.091 in the men’s cycling sprint.
Israel’s Mikhail Iakovlev had the lead in the qualifiers after setting an Olympic record - but Richardson went one further with the world record.
New Olympic record
A new Olympic record has been set in the men’s track cycling, with Israel’s Mikhail Iakovlev smashing it with a time of 9.152.
The Aussie Leigh Hoffman held the fastest time in the qualifiers until Iakovlev went one step further with the record.
