Paris Olympics 2024 Day 13: Team USA survive Serbia fight and launch massive comeback to win semifinal
Day 12 was a historic day in Paris as Australia surged to their best ever gold medal haul at an Olympics, is there more joy to come today?
Follow all the action live.
A boilover!
Noah Lyles has finished THIRD in his pet event at the Olympics.
And Letsile Tebogo has won Botswana’s FIRST-EVER gold medal in a sterling run, leading Lyles into the turn and leaving enough in the tank to hold him off on the straight.
Incredible stuff!
It’s silver for Keneth Bednarek from the US. Lyles appears to be not well.
Some entrance again
Noah Lyles has come BOUNDING out again, much like the 100m.
Let’s hope they’re not held on the blocks for quite so long tonight.
200 is up next!
It’s the fastest man in the world - out to do the sprint double.
Noah Lyles is the favourite for the 200m final, with Botswana’s Letsile Tobogo among the big challengers.
Water polo update
The USA just have the edge on our Stingers, holding a 5-4 lead early in the third-quarter of the water polo.
A spot in the gold medal match beckons for the winner.
Remember, the US had the better of our Sharks yesterday as well. Fingers crossed!
Jess Hull post-race
“This is the greatest our event has ever been and to be someone that is positioned as a medal contender, I am really lucky,” she said.
“I’m in the thick of it now and I love it, I’m really enjoying these championships.”
Hull through to the final!
A spot in the 1500m final awaits Jessica Hull after finishing second in her semifinal heat.
She finished with a time of 3min55.40sec and will now have the chance to improve on her 11th-placed finish at the same event in Tokyo.
Hull’s off
Jessica Hull’s heat has just started.
She has settled in third behind the two Ethopian runners, looking very settled in her stride.
Go Stingers!
In the pool, the women’s water polo semifinal has just started, with Australia up against the United States.
The US have jumped out to an early 1-0 lead.
Ran out of puff
Georgia Griffith has fallen short of a spot in the 1500m final, finishing her semifinal heat in ninth.
She was inside the top six for the whole race until the final 100m, where the toll of jumping out to an early position up front caught up with her.
And they’re off
Georgia Griffith’s heat is under way.
The 27-year-old has settled nicely on the inside.
