WOW!
Leon Marchand has claimed FOUR gold medals in a remarkable feat at his home Olympic Games.
The crowd roared in Paris as the Frenchman annihilated the field - and almost mowed down the world record - in the men’s 200m individual medley.
It was the fourth Olympic record he set, following gold medal performances in the 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 400m individual medley.
He becomes the fifth person ever to win four gold medals at their home Olympics.
Kennedy through
Izaak Kennedy is through to the final of the men’s BMX racing as the eighth and final qualifier.
That’s despite finishing last in the final run of his semifinal.
Three Aussies in finals! Let’s go!
Third for the Bunbury bullet
Lauren Reynolds has finished third AGAIN in her second run in the BMX.
That’s five straight races where our Aussie pair has finished in the same position. There’s a clear pecking order.
On the men’s side, Izaak Kennedy is sitting fourth in his semifinal.
Cruising into the final
Saya Sakakibara’s spot in the BMX racing final was hardly in doubt, but has now been confirmed.
She won a fifth straight run in the second heat of the semifinal from lane one and strengthens her favouritism for the final.
GOLD!
Kaylee McKeown has sealed back-to-back 100-200 backstroke doubles with a thrilling fightback to win the 200m final.
McKeown set an Olympic record of 2:03.73.
GOLD FOR MCEVOY
Cameron McEvoy has claimed gold in the men’s 50m freestyle final!
The Australia blitzed a star-studded field to hit the wall at 21.25 and claim the nation’s FIRST medal in this event.
Great Britain’s Benjamin Proud took home silver while France’s Florent Manaudou claimed silver.
Saya sizzling
Australia’s Saya Sakakibara crosses the finish line first with a time of 34.162 in the opening heat of the women’s BMX racing semifinal.
She’s on fire!
Reynolds’ nice start
Lauren Reynolds has also made a nice start in the first of three runs in her semifinal. She passed the line in third, hot on the tail of second.
That’s where she finished in all four of her races so far.
Flying home
Saya Sakakibara has cruised home in her semifinal in the BMX racing.
She started from lane one and was hardly ever challenged in her semi. That’s the fourth race in a row she has run in this event after conceding yesterday she was battling illness.
America’s Alice Willougby came in second and Bunbury’s Lauren Reynolds is in the other semifinal.
The Aussie is now the overwhelming favourite.
USA WORLD RECORD
USA have absolutely smashed the 4x400m mixed relay word record... IN A HEAT!
The race was lightening fast with four other teams beating national records.
But none were more impressive than the Americans, who were more than three seconds faster than second-place France.
Ones to beat in the final at 2.55am on Sunday.
