Davies delight

An ecstatic Rose Davies was rapt to have qualified for the 5km final after being spurred on by teammate Isobal Batt-Doyle.

“I’m super happy. I’ve made an Olympic final and that was the goal all year so I’m really happy,” Davies told Channel 9.

“When Issy (Batt-Doyle) went to the front I knew she’d go hard so I wanted to get in behind her.

The 5km final is set down for 3.15am on Tuesday.

BOOMERS SCRAPE THROUGH

RJ Barrett of Canada was the hero the Boomers didn’t know they needed.

The Toronto Raptor drained a corner three in the final minute against Spain to give them a five-point and unassailable lead late in the piece.

The dagger meant Spain were forced to foul which sent Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the line twice, who knocked down three of his four free throws.

Sergio Llull jacked up a prayer from half-court which hit nothing but air, as Spain were bundled out.

The 88-85 victory ended Spain’s Olympics campaign there and then, while advancing the Boomers through to the knockout stages in the process.

Davies dashes to 5km final

Rose Davies has qualified for the women’s 5km final after a brave run to finish third in heat two.

After fellow Aussie Isobel Batt-Doyle set the pace most of the last four laps, Davies opened up the legs and turned on the after burners to power to the line.

Batt-Doyle faded late and ended in ninth, narrowly missing out on a finals appearnce.

Jalolov takes it

The Uzbek lets out a big roar in the final siren as he knows he’s on it after a final flourish.

Still, he was locked in a big battle there as Teremoana showed his best but ultimately went down in a unanimous decision.

He has not lost a fight in six years but that was a close as perhaps anyone has gotten in that time.

Teremoana needs a stoppage

Jalolov is landing some nice combos and Teremoana is trying to swing on the counter.

He catches Jalolov in the corner and lands some nice shots then catches him again as the seconds tick down but is the late flurrish enough to take the round?

It’s close but Jalolov just edges it again.

Ding ding ding

Teremoana Teremoana is in the ring with Tokyo gold medalist Bakhodir Jalolov from Uzbekistan in the men’s 92kg quarter-final.

He landed some nice shots in the opening round and controlled the centre of the ring but was shaded on the judges scorecards 4-1.
