Paris Olympics 2024 live: Arisa Trew wins, Boomers lose to Serbia, Matt Wearn medal race called off on day 11
Australia continued its impressive run of gold medals on day 11 of the Paris Olympics, but this one had a twist that will go down in history.
That’s it from us
Just when it feels like our gold rush might be put on pause, we get another historic moment.
Arisa Trew overnight became Australia’s youngest ever gold medal winner, with a stunning third run landing her victory in the women’s park skate competition.
Our team sprint men on the track also snapped one of our most frustrating sporting droughts with a bronze medal and the Stade de France was lit up by some epic contests, including a men’s 1500m that has to be seen to be believed.
It’s Australia’s night in the track and field tomorrow. Nina Kennedy is a genuine gold medal chance, Matt Denny is also sniffing around the medals and Peter Bol, Brandon Starc and Michelle Jenneke begin their Olympics.
Still plenty to look forward to!
And to end the night ...
How cool is this!
A group of Olympic volunteers have taken to the Stade de France track to test themselves where some of the world’s greatest athletes have competed in recent days.
Do we reckon Noah Lyles’ time of 9.87 was given a shake here? Cool stuff.
Easy does it
Team USA are through to a semifinal, easing to a 122-87 victory over Brazil.
They will now meet Nikola Jokic’s Serbia in a semifinal not to be missed.
Devin Booker finished with 18 points and Anthony Edwards 17 for the red-hot favourites.
Cruising now
A Lebron-Jayson Tatum inbound alley-oop was the exclamation mark on a three-minute period where the USA got cooking.
They go into the break with a 63-36 lead that really got away from Brazil in the final moments.
Inside story
There was plenty of emotion attached to Australia’s bronze medal in the track cycling men’s team sprint.
This cracking story of veteran Matt Glaetzer, dubbed cycling’s most unlucky man, will explain why:
They’ve got a bit of a fight on their hands!
The star-sudded Team USA basketball team is back in action in the basketball, taking on Brazil in a quarter-final.
Unfortunately, this don’t have any ramifications for our Boomers, who were knocked out by Serbia last night.
The winner of this one will take on Nicola Jokic’s Serbia.
USA lead 42-34 late in the second quarter. Devin Booker leads the US with nine points.
How sick is this?!
A shoutout for Australia’s 14-year-old sensation Arisa Trew from skating GOAT Tony Hawk.
Through to the semis!
Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar will compete for a medal at a second consecutive Olympic Games.
After claiming silver at Tokyo three years ago, the exciting Aussie pair will go through to the semifinal after winning the deciding third set 15-12.
That’s the first of the four quarter-finals done and dusted.
Match point!
It’s four match points for Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar!
The 1500m fallout
Here is how Norwegian favourite Jakob Ingebrigtsen assessed his 1500m after leading for all but 100 metres and missing the medals.
“Of course it’s a tactical error that I’m not able to reduce my pace the first 800,” he said.
“It’s just a little too hard. I think I saw on the back straight with probably 650 to go that they were opening a little bit of a gap, so I tried to respond by going just a little bit too much on the gas. Just 100 meters too much today.”
