Australia continued its impressive run of gold medals on day 11 of the Paris Olympics, but this one had a twist that will go down in history.

Back to the steeplechase

It’s a field packed full of current and former world champions for the women’s 3000m steeplechase, the next final up at Stade de France.

Beach volleyball time

Australia’s favourite beach volleyball pair, Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar are taking to the beautiful Eiffel Tower stadium for a quarter-final against Switzerland.

Win, and they are a real chance at a medal for a second straight Olympics.

Olympic record for Hocker

It’s a shock given he was buffeted out of it on the home straight, but Hocker’s gold-medal run is also an Olympic record time of 3:27.65.

One of the real shocks on the track.

He’s spoilt the party!!

For 500 of the last 700 metres, this was the head-to-head match race it had been forecast as.

But as Josh Kerr pushed past Jakob Ingebrigtsen, USA’s Cole Hocker made a stunning late charge to salute.

His first push was checked by the Norweigen, who led until the back straight but got run out of the medals.

Kerr came in second with a British national record. American Yared Nuguse snuck in for bronze.

That’s our thriller for the morning on the track. Wow!

The blue riband 1500m!

One of the big match races of this meet.

Great Britain’s Josh Kerr up against Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who have shared one of the biggest rivalries in athletics across the past 12 months.

Ingebrigtsen takes an early lead!

‘Monkey off the back’

Aussie Matthew Glaetzer has opened up on the bronze medal that ends a cruel run of fourth-placed finishes in the team sprint event.

Australia had finished one spot outside the medals in the past five Olympics campaigns.

“I’m super proud of them, they’re such talents and they deserve this so much ... I couldn’t have done it with out them,” Glaetzer said of his teammates, who shook up the order to allow him to lead out.

“Just to get a medal is very superficial, but it means a lot. It’s so nice to get that reward.

“We’ve been right up there and just really didn’t want to let the boys down on this stage and super proud we got it done.

This bronze is like a gold to me to be honest, after going 12 years without an Olympic medal, to win a bronze medal is super special ... can’t be more grateful.”

Yukich misses out

The dream Olympics campaign is over for Alana Yukich, but the semifinal was taken out oh so easily by Dutch superstar Femke Bol.

Bol ran it in 52.05:07 and like McLaughlin-Levrone, it looked pretty cruisey.

Yukich ran towards the back of the field and came in seventh - that’s after a nervy false start where American Anna Cockrell through her hand up less than a second before the gun went.

Alanah Yukich up next!

The West Aussie young gun’s bid for an unlikely spot in the women’s 400m hurdles final is about to kick off.

She’s already run a personal best this meet, but they’re pretty well racing for second in this semi, behind Dutch world champion Femke Bol, who has already lit up the Stade de France track this week.

The star is through

American star and women’s 400m hurdles favourite Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is through to the final with a get-the-business-done performance in the semifinal.

She barely had to attack that race at all and came out of the stagger with a commanding lead, the Olympic record was briefly in sight on the back straight and that world record could be in danger when they race for real later this week.

She got through in a time of 52.13 and the other qualifier, Frenchwoman Louise Maraval, came through almost two seconds behind.

The team includes West Australian gymnast-turned-cyclist Matthew Richardson!

Netherlands then beat Great Britain in the gold medal sprint to win the tournament.
