Paris Olympics 2024 live: Arisa Trew wins, Boomers lose to Serbia, Matt Wearn medal race called off on day 11
Australia continued its impressive run of gold medals on day 11 of the Paris Olympics, but this one had a twist that will go down in history.
Our fingers are crossed!
The Swiss pair have levelled the third set up at eights against Aussies Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar, who have let some unforced errors slip into their game.
We’ve got a champion ... again!
The medals have been decided in the long jump, with Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou defending his title from Tokyo with a 8.48m.
He wins ahead of Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock’s 8.36m and Italy’s Mattia Furlani, who jumped 8.34m.
We’re all tied up
The Swiss pair of Zoe Verge-Depre and Esmee Boebner have claimed the second set to tie things up in the shadows of the Eiffel Tower.
The Aussie have taken an early lead in the deciding set though. We’re in for a close one!
Thomas has it!
American Gabby Thomas is the women’s 200m champion.
She won this race on the turn after Julien Alfred got out of the blocks well, but unlike in the 100m, the St Lucian didn’t have the extra burst. A stunning run.
Alfred finished second and Brittany Brown takes bronze.
Women’s 200 is on!
We’ve already seen so many incredible events on the track tonight ... but the big one is still to come.
St Lucia’s Julien Alfred is out to do the most unlikely of 100-200-metre double after powering to an upset 100m win earlier this week.
Gabby Thomas is the main rival to Alfred tonight and enters with slight favouritism.
Florence Griffith Joyner’s long-standing world and Olympic records both still stand in this event.
Nearing a long jump finish
It’s a close finish to the final rounds of the long jump as well.
Greece’s Miltiádis Tentóglou has a best jump of 8.48m and leads Jamaican leaper Wayne Pinnock, who sits with an 8.36.
They’re queing up for their final jump.
A thrilling finish!
There’s another ripper on the track!
Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi has defended her 3000m title in an Olympic record time of 8.52:76.
She was behind Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai at the final water jump, they both had a safe landing and she tracked her down on the home straight.
They briefly ran shoulder-to-shoulder but the reigning champ had the petrol tickets at the end.
That’s Bahrain’s third athletics gold.
First set goes our way!
Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have pulled this first set back very well and go 1-0 up over Switzerland.
It’s a seriously dominant back-end to recover that one. Good signs in the quarter-final.
Fastest man on earth got into the 1500m!
100m bronze medallist Fred Kerly also posted: “Cole you did that s...”
First set fightback
It was a slow start but Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy have stormed back into first-set contention against their Swiss opponents.
They were down as many as four points early in the set, but have pulled the margin back to one.
It’s 12-13 as it stands.
