Australia continued its impressive run of gold medals on day 11 of the Paris Olympics, but this one had a twist that will go down in history.

Samantha Rogers

Locked in!

Aussie diver Kurtis Mathews is through to the semifinal of the men’s 3m springboard.

What an achievement for the 25-year-old in his debut Olympics!

Kayak Gold duo off to strong start

Jean van der Westhuyzen and Tom Green just blitzed their double 500m K2 heat.

They jumped into the lead early and never looked back to safely progress to the semifinals.

Oceania Mackenzie makes history!

She is the first Australian to ever make a sports climbing final.

She sits in second behind the French competitor but no one can knock her out of the top 12.

A great result for the 22-year-old and who knows what she could do come the final.

Ellie Beer out of 400m

She’s a touch off the PB she ran in her heat and finished 4th.

A strong run but not enough to make the final but at just 21 this will be great experience for her and she’ll be back stronger.

Mathews pulls himself out of trouble

Just when I said Mathews didn’t need to take any risks he had a horrendous fourth dive after under rotating that his him in danger of missing out.

But on his fifth dive, he gets his best score of the night with a 78.20 which has him right back in contention and should almost see him through.

Sport climbing stunner

I’ll admit I don’t know much about sport climbing other than being told it’s something I should get into.

But Australia’s Oceana Mackenzie has made a strong start becoming the first athlete to send the opening problem to put her in third from 14 climbers to attempt.

She’s a genuine chance to get through to the medal final at this rate.

The Boomers challenge

They scraped through to the knockout phases but after their poor showing against Greece alarm bells will be ringing if Jokic gets going.

WA athletes in action

For those on the scout for local talent here are the sandgropers in action on day 11.

Kurtis Matthews in a solid position

The Australian is up in the 3m springboard qualifying

After three dives his score is 205.90 to have him in 5th.

It’s only the preliminary round with the top 18 going through so no need to do anything silly.

Hull cruises through

It’s not a fast heat and Hull almost jogs through in a time of 4:02.70 to finish in second and go through to the semis.

For reference, Griffith was 3.59.22 to finish fourth in her first heat.
