It’s over! France win!

France are through to the women’s basketball final - and don’t the fans love it!

The host nation hold their nerve in the extra period - which almost became a free-throw shooting contest with both teams in the bonus - and salute 81-75.

It means Belgium will be the opponent for the Aussies in their bronze medal clash, and sets up twin US v France match-ups in the men’s and women’s finals.

Overtime!

We’ve got extra basketball at Bercy after Emma Meesseman drained a three with eight seconds left - and France couldn’t respond!

The crowd is at fever pitch as we enter OT...

France 60-56

The French hold a four-point lead with four minutes to play in the women’s basketball semi.

The last remaining big event of the day is the women’s 66kg boxing gold medal match, which is about to get underway, and features an athlete who has had plenty of time in the spotlight these Games in Algeria’s Imane Khelif. She’s up against Yang Liu of China.

... and France hit back!

The crowd inside Bercy Arena is going NUTS as France make a big rally to take the lead!

Since facing that 49-41 deficit, the host nation have gone on an 13-2 run to storm to a three-point lead with seven minutes to play.

You get the feeling the Opals wouldn’t mind facing Belgium in front of a neutral crowd rather than facing this kind of cauldron in the bronze medal match!

Women’s hoops update

Australia’s Opals couldn’t challenge the might of the US in their semifinal earlier in the night, but can still take home bronze.

Their opponent for that bronze medal game is being determined right now, and it’s looking like it could be home nation France, who are trailing 49-41 midway through the third term in their semi against Belgium.

If France can launch a comeback here, it’ll set up twin US v France match-ups in both the men’s and women’s basketball finals.

Men’s 400m hurdles

US star Rai Benjamin lives up to his billing as firm favourite and gets the job done!

The 27-year-old equals his season-best time with 46.46 seconds to be 0.6s faster than Norway’s Karsten Warholm.

On the side of the track at Stade de France has been the men’s triple jump, where Aussie Connor Murphy finished 12th of 12th but made a big effort to reach the final.

Spain’s Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun takes out the gold for his country’s maiden triple jump medal.

Breaking broken?

Heading away from the more traditional Olympic sports... the quality of the breakdancing has been the subject of some bewilderment from casual viewers.

Here’s what the reaction has been like as the sport makes its Games debut.

And that’s that!

Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar can’t add to their silver medal from Tokyo with bronze.

The Aussie duo were kept at arm’s length by the Swiss in the 21-17 21-15 result.
