Trouble brewing
The Aussies are in a 9-4 hole in the second set and are running out of time to stay in bronze medal contention!
Meanwhile, the women’s 10km final has been run and won, with Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet - the world record holder over the distance - producing a late burst to claim gold.

First set done!
The first set is in the books - and it’s not the news the Aussies wanted!
Switzerland take it out 21-17 after establishing that 3-4-5 point buffer that our women couldn’t make inroads into.
Gut-check time now for Taliqua and Mariafe... what can they deliver?
First set
The Swiss have the early momentum in the bronze medal match on the sand!
It’s a 12-9 buffer for them as Clancy and Artacho del Solar look to get a foothold in the contest.
Reminder: It’s a best of three format for beach volleyball sets, with the first two sets a race to 21 and then a race to 15 if a third set is needed.
Men’s football decider
Spain have spoiled the party for the home nation!
It was locked 3-3 at full time in the men’s football decider, with French legend Thierry Henry looking to coach his side to glory in front of a raucous home crowd.
But the Spanish scored first in extra time and then added another in the dying minutes on the counter - after defending for their lives.
Coming up: Beach volleyball decider
If you’re awake at this early hour... then chances are you’re excited about the prospect of our Aussie girls winning bronze in their beach volleyball minor final!
Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar will face off with the Swiss pair of Nina Brunner and Tanja Hueberli for the chance to snare bronze and add to their Tokyo silver medals.
Women’s hockey final
We’re close to half-time in the women’s hockey decider, which sees China holding a 1-0 lead over The Netherlands.
The Chinese, who have Ric Charlesworth on their staff, ended Australia’s hopes earlier in the week.
Rare gold!
It’s a rare gold for the Dominican Republic!
Marileidy Paulino lives up to the hype as women’s 400m favourite, streeting the field early and even pulling up slightly before the line while claiming a new Olympic record time of 48.17s.
She’s reserved on the finish line but clearly thrilled after that. We’ve seen a fantastic spread of winning nations across the track and field disciplines over the past week.

Richo proud
After his race, Matthew Richardson said he was proud of his Paris campaign.
“I came here for gold for sure, who doesn’t, but I can definitely hold my head high with silver,” he told Channel Nine.
“The level of competition was just out of this world, so to compete all the way to the end, I just couldn’t be prouder.”
Canada claim men’s 4x100m
Canada have taken out the men’s 4x100m relay gold medal in a blockbuster finish.
Margins in the race proved razor thin, with silver medallists South Africa, bronze medallists Great Britain, and Italy all looking a chance down the stretch.
The US, who were without 100m gold medallist Noah Lyles, were out of the race early after horror changeover between Christian Coleman and Kenny Bednarek.
Sha’carri sprints home to seal 4x100m for US
An unbelievable anchor run from Sha’Carri Richardson has sealed a 4x100m women’s relay gold medal for the United States.
Coming into the final 100m, Richardson had a significant gap to close on Jamaica and Germany, but was able to storm home to claim the win.
It is a first gold medal for the powerhouse sprinter, who missed the Tokyo Games due to returning a positive test for THC.
