Djokovic too strong for WA’s Ebden

Tennis megastar Novak Djokovic has made light work of West Aussie Matt Ebden, winning in straight sets.

The Serbian won 10 straight games before Ebden won his first, lifting his shirt over his head in celebration.

However it was short lived, with Djokovic proving too classy, winning in 53 minutes.

FINAL 6-0, 6-1

Ebden on the board

West Aussie Matt Ebden has won his first game against Novak Djokovic.

After the Serbian dominated for most of the contest, Ebden managed to take his first point during the second set.

Djokovic is up 4-1 in the second set after winning the first.

Beach Volleyball

It’s a bit of a dreary day in Paris but Aussies Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher are enjoying the sand in the Beach Volleyball.

They are up against Sweden in their first clash of the prelim rounds and are sticking with them.

The Swedes are up 8-6 in the first set.

First set

Ebden has been thrashed in the opening set by Djokovic 6-0.

The boy from Perth is trying hard, but he doesn’t have the power or guile to match it with the Serbian superstar.

The Olympics is best of three for men and women so he only has one set to try and turn this around.

Govers goal wins it for Kookaburras

One goal was all the Aussies needed to get past Argentina, but it didn’t come without some very nervy moments.

Argentina had two chances to equalise in the final minutes but couldn’t get it together.

The Aussies know they can do better, but a winning start is all they need.

ICYMI Boomers result

Earlier tonight, the Aussie Boomers made the perfect start to their Olympic campaign.

In a fiery clash with Spain, Patty Mills, Jock Landale and Josh Giddey all starred.

The Boomers took bronze in Tokyo and are looking for more in Paris.

One to go

The offence went up a notch in the third, but neither the Kookaburras nor Argentina could make the breakthrough.

They each had a good chance each but both goalkeepers were up to the task.

Australia will want a goal early in the last term to create some breathing space and avoid a tight finish.

Great save

The Kookaburras were nearly breached by a smart through ball into the attacking D from Argentina, but the goalkeeper was up for the challenge, knocking the ball away with a hand pad.

The Argentines have come out with a bit of fire after going behind on the stroke of halftime.

Star power

In the Tennis, Iga Swiatek has made a comprehensive start to her Olympic gold medal bid.

The Women’s No.1 dispatched Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in straight sets.

It means WA’s Matt Ebden is up next against the superstar Novak Djokovic.
