Curtis Island: Man rushed to hospital after shark attack near Great Barrier Reef in Queensland

A man has been left with several lacerations and abrasions after a shark attack off the Queensland coast.

A 60-year-old man was in waters near Curtis Island which borders the Great Barrier Reef and was reportedly attacked on Monday morning.

The man was rushed to hospital with the Queensland Ambulance Service saying he suffered lacerations and abrasions to both arms.

The man was taken to the mainland via a vessel before being transported to Gladstone Hospital in a stable condition.

It is not know what species of shark was involved.

Curtis Island is located in the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, about 12 kilometres from mainland Gladstone.
