“There was some action that was taken.”
He did not say why police were called, but specified that “there are no current domestic violence orders that are in place”.
Crawford’s husband has been facing questions from police “since the woman was discovered, in regards to better understanding how this has actually occurred”, Marchesini said.
Her death has been declared suspicious because “we’ve not been able to determine” how she died.
“She had sustained critical injuries, and there are a number of things we need to understand better to understand how this actually happened,” Marchesini said.
Autopsy results are pending and the time of the death remains “subject to investigation”, he said.
Whether the mower was involved in her death is also under investigation.
The detective said the 49-year-old was dead when emergency services arrived about 3.40am on Tuesday.
Her husband alerted emergency services to her body, Marchesini said.
“The male person at the house has discovered the woman around that time,” he said.
“That’s how police were called. There was a call made to emergency services to render assistance, and QAS and police attended that scene.
“As I said before, sadly she’d already passed.”
Police have called for anyone with information on the husband and wife’s relationship to contact police.
Tributes have flowed for Crawford since her death, including from her family, workplace and church.
“This is a tragic incident,” Marchesini said.
“It’s an incident where our hearts do go out to the family, in particular, the woman’s three children, the community, her workplace and also first responders who go to these types of jobs.”
