Golden Globes 2026 live updates: Red carpet fashion, Nikki Glaser‘s opening monologue, Aussie Rose Byrne wins

Expect to hear Jessie Buckley’s name read out a lot over the next couple of months - she is the absolute favourite in the Oscars race and this win here only reinforces that story.

The Irish star just won for her emotionally wrenching performance as Agnes Shakespeare. She was transcendant in the role, and she was characteristically charming and very Irish accepting the Globe.

She told an adorable story about a Polish crew member on the production who made them soup, and also said her husband has really enjoyed the free cocktails and canapes on the circuit.

Adolescence wraps up its sweep of the awards circuit with this last stop.

Writer Jack Thorne shouted out his young cast and crew and called them a hope for the future.

“A lot of people think our show is about how we should be frightened of young people. It’s not. It’s about the filth and the debris we have laid in their path.

“You are proof the world can be better. Removing hate is our generation’s responsibility. It requires thought from the top down.”

The first season of Pluribus only just wrapped and it’s already proving to be a huge presence on the awards circuit.

Rhea Seehorn repeated her Critics Choice win last week with a victory here at the Globes.

She gave special thanks to creator Vince Gilligan, who wrote the role for her after they previously worked together on Better Call Saul. She said, “Thank you for writing me the role of a lifetime, and even more than that, thank you for having believing in me. that is beyond.

“You make me want to be better every day. I really appreciate it.”

OK, it’s hard to produce a three-hour (and change) live show, but there are some very awkward moments in this Golden Globes ceremony.

First, there’s the bad commentary track running in between categories, some strange banter that doesn’t work, but there’s been a hell of a lot of cross-promotional stuff for either Paramount, which has the broadcast and streaming rights, or brands owned by parent company which also runs the Globes.

There are loads of mentions of betting odds for a particular gambling company and, uh, it’s incredibly tacky.

Then there was that weirdo UFC promotion, which the commentators were clearly trying to link to the Heated Rivalry guys about to come out on stage, by saying that the actors in the horny show needed security because they were being mobbed everywhere.

But then two random UFC people came out on stage alone, holding up their belts and then just walked off. This bit only works if they either stayed on stage, flanking the Heated Rivalry guys, or walked with them like they were bodyguards.

Please, stop.

OK, he didn’t really. But Wanda Sykes did on his behalf - she threatened to earlier when she was presenting - and since he wasn’t there, she could say whatever she wanted.

Erin Doherty adds another gong to her shelf for her insane, unforgettable performance in that episode of Adolescence, a testament to the monumental impact you can have by not overplaying a scene.

Despite promising her mum she wouldn’t swear, Doherty started by dropping an F-bomb, and then went onto thank therapists (she played one). “Life can be tough, mental health is everything, so thank you to therapists.”

Brazilian fans are super passionate (Brazilian film Twitter is, uh, very loud), and last year, another one of their films, I’m Still Here, also triumphed at the Globes with a win for actor Fernanda Torres.
