Amanda Keller is paying tribute to her good mate, Andrew Denton, who is being inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame.

And about time, too!

“He has never stopped taking risks or pushing boundaries,” Keller says.

“He has always been the funniest person I know, but also the smartest, the silliest and the sweetest.

“His friendship has been such a gift, and to work alongside him for all these years has been a wonderful bonus.”

Many of Australia’s best-known comedians are in the package, giving him a shout-out.

“Andrew has always had an uncomfrotable relationship with the Logies,” his wife Jennifer Byrne says - cut to video footage of him sitting on James Packer’s lap.

“To be in a job like this job (The Narrow Road To The Deep North) is an awesome opportunity for someone, and that is a win,” he said.

Claudia Karvan wins for best supporting actress and has made special mention of how much she values this win, which was for the SBS drama Homebodies.

She called it her most “significant and important” Logie

“This is the first trans story at the Logies,” she said.

“May all parents of trans kids and trans kids feel seen and heard. It’s legal to be here.”

It’s time for the In Memorium segment.

Young, who passed away this week, is being honoured.

“Each week Young Talent Time created a safe and magical place for Australian chidlren to dream,” Dannii says.

“Perhaps Johnny’s greatest legacy is the ripple effect he created through generations of performers, musicians and the creative people he inspired, always giving his time with kindness and a smile that is never forgotten.”

The segment also mentioned the likes of David Stratton, Rachel Carpani, Rhoda Roberts and James Valentine.

Heather Mitchell added touching words about Sam Neill, “(He) was universally loved. I loved him very much.

“He took every opportunity to open his heart and share his life and his talent with all of us. He gave us courage and hope. And very fine wine. He loved this industry for its absurdities, as much as its potential for warmth and connection.

“To quote Sam, I know it’s easy to spiral down and think ‘What’s the worst thing that could happen. But I encourage you to spiral up and think, ‘What’s the best thing that can happen?’. Look up.”

Weirdly, this is his first ever Logies win.

How is that possible? He’s been around forever!

“Oh shit, I didn’t even put a jacket on,” he says.

“I think (Deadloch) is so special...and I’d like to say a big thankyou to the two Kates,” he said, referring to Kate McLennon and Kate McCartney, who created the show.

“I was so chuffed to have falled in love with the show, and to have been offered the role of Frank,” he said.
