Cricket: Ben Stokes did his best to hold England together, but Australia were far too good on a day that all but wraps up the Ashes as a contest.

England were bowled out for 286 before Travis Head hit his fourth Test century at the Adelaide Oval in his past four matches there.

Alex Carey also added another handy knock.

Recap the day in our blog below.

Mr Adelaide!

Head does it again!

He has two Test hundreds as an opener in just five attempts and makes it four Test hundreds at Adelaide Oval in his past four Adelaide Tests.

Root made him wait with darts and then he got dropped by Brook at backward point off Archer on 99 cutting.

He finally got there in Root’s next over with a smash over mid-off for four.

The superstar kissed the pitch in celebration!

Tea

England tried the short-ball tactic to Head in the over before the break but the South Aussie smashed one into the stands and then just ducked and weaved his way to Tea.

The tourists need to dominate this final session and have Australia nearly all out if they are any chance to remain alive in the Ashes.

But if Head can keep going and get to triple figures, trouble.

100 up

Australia go past the 100 mark as runs continue to flow.

These two have now put on 50 runs in a short period.

Half century!

Head reaches the milestone with another crisp boundary.

The South Australian knows how to dominate his home ground.

Can he push on?

Up the gears

Head is starting to find his groove as he approaches another half century.

And, unusually, it’s Khawaja’s arrival at the crease that has given him and Australia some impetus.

England need to rein this in quick.

Khawaja is now also the 15th highest Test run scorer for Australia all-time.

Attack

Khawaja is not in the mood to sit back today.

He gets off the mark with a brutal cut shot against Tongue for four before sweeping Jacks to the rope as well.

A better intent than Marnus showed.

Did it carry?

Marnus nicks one after being squared up again and the ball heads to Brook at second slip.

They send it upstairs to check if it carried but this one was obvious.

That knock of 13 showed a lot of signs of the broken Labuschagne that got dropped.

He shouldn’t be struggling like that on a placid wicket.

Just short!

Jacks catches the edge of Head’s bat with his last ball but it drops short of first slip.

There’s no pace in this wicket and Australia are going to want a lot of runs on the board when it comes time to bowl again.

A draw is not off the cards here so all three results still on the table.

Change of tact

England have brought in the off spin after Crase delivered his best spell of the series.

The pitch is still very flat and Head looked to be aggressive against Jacks.

It might also get Marnus going as he is struggling for tempo.

Slow burn

Australia are happy to milk the singles as Tongue’s first over is all over the place.

They have few catchers on the off side but he keeps bowling wide of off stump.

Head and Labuschagne ticking over at three runs per over.

Review

England waited until their was one second left on the clock but they have reviewed a close edge on Marnus.

However, there is a clear gap between bat and ball.
