Paris Olympics 2024: Live blog of day five of Games action as triathlon action gets underway
It’s day five of the Paris Olympic Games and athletes are braving the river Seine as the first triathlons get underway.

Aussies double up for 200m breaststroke semis
Both Jenna Strauch and Ella Ramsay have qualified for the 200m breaststroke semifinals, with both doing enough to get through the heats.
Strauch performed well to qualify in eighth, while Ramsay in her debut games snuck through in 14th.
Aussie rowing pair into final
Annabelle McIntyre and Jess Morrison have secured their spot in the women’s pair finals, after crossing the line in first in their qualifier.
The semifinal saw them stay ahead of team USA, but the Netherlands looks the team to beat, finishing nearly four seconds faster than the Aussies in the other semifinal.
The final will take place on day seven.
Strauch puts up solid time in 200m breaststroke
Aussie Jenna Strauch finished second in her heat, qualifying for the 200m breaststroke semifinals.
She finished in 2:24.38, with fellow Aussie Ella Ramsay to come.
Hauser in lead pack in triathlon
Australia’s Matt Hauser has continued his run amongst the leaders in the men’s triathlon.
The lead pack features three competitors, including Italy’s Alessio Crociani and South Africa’s Henri Schoeman alongside the 26-year-old.
They were the first to enter the cycling stage, which is 40km on the bike.
Aussies set to feature in the pool
Australia is set to compete in a number of heats, as they aim to continue their strong showing in the swimming.
First up is Jenna Strauch and Ella Ramsay who will compete in the heats for the 200m breaststroke.
Aussie in second as men’s triathlon underway
The men’s triathlon has commenced, with an Aussie amongst the leaders early.
Matthew Hauser sits in second during the swimming leg, behind South Africa’s Henri Schoeman.
Luke Willian is the other Aussie in the event.
Coughlan through to next round of judo
Aussie Aoife Coughlan is through to next round in the judo, after she won her bout in overtime.
She looked to be the aggressor, with her Hungarian opponent happy to play defence for the majority of the contest.
Neither competitor could get any points on the board in regular time, with the bout going to golden score.
Coughlan was able to take down her opponent moments later, claiming the 1-0 win and moving on to the round of 16.
Yong headlines WA stars in Games on day five
Joshua Yong will compete in the 200m breaststroke final later tonight, headlining the West Aussies set to be in action on day five.
Meanwhile, a couple of boxers will hit the ring for the first time this Olympics, with one making his debut.

Aussie set for judo action
Victorian Aoife Coughlan isn’t far away from action in her first round judo match up.
She’ll take on Hungary’s Szabina Gercsak in the round of 32.
Hometown hero Beaugrand claims gold for France
Cassandre Beaugrand has taken gold in the women’s triathlon, crossing the line with a time of 1:54:55.
The 27-year-old was full of emotion after fiishing first, dropping to her knees in celebration.
Switzerland’s Julie Derron finished with silver, while Great Britain’s Beth Potter claimed bronze.
Sophie Linn was the best-placed Aussie, crossing the line in 21st.
